• CTE is responsible to collect a $600 implementation fee for this program. This fee is included in the program price. Over 4 months, a credit/debit card payment of $150 will be collected on the 10th of every month. The first payment will begin on January 10, 2019.
• A tuition payment of $750 is paid in full directly to Sierra Nevada College (SNC) at the start of each semester. This is a 2 semester program.
*All fees are included in the program cost. The total cost is based on 2 semesters for program completion and will vary depending on program completion.

Please note: Courses will be offered based on enrollments. A minimum of 8 students is required for a course to be offered.
Prerequisite: Open to all. Carefully compare courses within this program to those courses you have previously taken. Repeating the same course will prevent you from advancing.
To receive an endorsement to teach in a program of gifted and talented education, a person must (NV DOE):

  1. Hold a license for the level of education in which the program is offered; and
  2. Have two (2) years of verified experience as a teacher in schools approved by the department; and
  3. Have completed twelve (12) semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university to include three (3) semester hours of credit in each of the following areas of study:
    A. Characteristics and needs of gifted and talented pupils;
    B. Assessment of gifted and talented pupils and programs for such pupils;
    C. Curriculum in content areas for gifted and talented pupils; and
    D. Methodology and strategies for teaching gifted and talented pupils.

GTED 563 – Characteristics and Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted and Talented Learners
(3 Graduate Credits/24 CUs)        Course Date: January 25 – March 9

This is a survey course to introduce students with the social and emotional characteristics of gifted students and teachers of the gifted students. The course includes procedures for assisting GTED students in their independent and collective journey in maximizing their own talent. Creative GT students and their special needs will be explored. It fulfills part of the Nevada State GTED endorsement requirement. It is aligned with the lnTASC Standards.
 

GTED 562 – Curriculum Development for Gifted and Talented Learners
(3 Graduate Credits/24 CUs)        Course Date: March 29 – May 11

This course provides students with frameworks and models to develop curriculum appropriate for students identified as gifted/talented. It fulfills part of the Nevada State GTED endorsement requirement. It is aligned with the lnTASC Standards.
 

GTED 560 – Methods and Models of Brain Researched Strategies for Gifted and Talented Learners
(3 Graduate Credits/24 CUs)        Course Date: June 3 – June 12

This course includes brain research and how it relates to giftedness and the milestones of brain development and optimizing giftedness. It fulfills part of the Nevada State GTED endorsement requirement. It is aligned with the lnTASC Standards.
 

GTED 561 – Assessment and Culture of Individualized Gifted and Talented Learners
(3 Graduate Credits/24 CUs)        Course Date: June 24 – July 10

This course defines giftedness and explores the culture and ability levels which may impact gifted students. A variety of assessments will be analyzed and used to evaluate linguistic and non-verbal behaviors, and classroom performances. Culturally responsive pedagogical strategies and classroom adaptations are discussed. It fulfills part of the Nevada State GTED endorsement requirement. It is aligned with the lnTASC Standards.
